Mirror Lake is a special place for my wife and I. It’s where I asked her to marry me. We have always gone to Yosemite at least once a year. Backpacking, hiking, staying in Yosemite Lodge, Curry Village, and our new favorite The Wawona Hotel.
MIrror Lake is more like a flooded field, you can walk through the water and look down at the mirror-like surface reflecting the trees and granite cliffs surrounding the area. Half Dome is almost straight up!
The walk to Mirror Lake is peaceful (sometimes there are kids and parents yelling but that’s everywhere in the Valley) and easy and the trail follows a nice stream. There’s a trail that goes up to the right of the stream right at the stone bridge that is longer, but much more peaceful and beautiful on busy days. People generally take the easy way that is marked and has a wide path, but this trail takes you through the trees, by some wildflowers, and you can see the masses every now and then on the other side of the stream. Take this little side trail up and you can come back down the popular way and not miss a thing.
